New Jersey
The first Europeans to settle in the State of New Jersey (NJ) were the Swedes and the Dutch in the early 1600s. Before this time Native Americans had inhabited this area for over 2800 years. After the Swedes and the Dutch had moved in, the British later moved in and taken control of this area. In later years, New Jersey became one of the original 13 colonies to fight against Great Britain and to gain their independence. Some of the representatives of New Jersey (NJ) who signed the Declaration of Independence include Richard Stockton, John Witherspoon, Francis Hopkinson, John Hart, and Abraham Clark. These men went on to serve the United States in different governmental offices after the war. Since quite the British and American crossed New Jersey quite a few times during the Revolutionary War, this particular state was named “The Crossroads of the Revolution”. One example of New Jersey being the crossroads was when a series of battles were fought between Christmas Day in 1776 and January 3 of 1777 is when New Jersey was being traversed upon between Trenton and Princeton. During the making of the U.S Constitution, New Jersey (NJ) was the third state to ratify it. Then, in the year 1789 they became the first Union to ratify the Bill of Rights. Furthermore, NJ had been one that issued its own state constitution, which was served to be one of the documents that could be described as being closest to equality of most constitutions that were written. The state of New Jersey is named after the Island of Jersey which is located in the English Channel. The state of New York is situated north of Jersey, on the East by the Atlantic Ocean, on the Southwest by Delaware, and on the West by Pennsylvania. In more modern times New Jersey is know for its “Devils”, which is a hockey league, and the Nets, which is an NBA Basketball team. This city is built up quite a bit, and one of its biggest cities is Newark, which five miles west of the Manhattan Borough of New York City. The State of New Jersey is very well established, as are all the other states of the United States. That means that this particular state is equipped with its own DMVs, lawyers, car insurance salesmen, universities, and more. This city also has quite a sophisticate public transportation system.
