Louisiana
The city in Louisiana (LA) with the most people in it is New Orleans. Of course, in recent years people have heard about the hurricane Katrina, which was a terrible tragedy that hit New Orleans in the year 2005. New Orleans is not the capital city of the state of Louisiana, however. Rather, this state’s capital is Baton Rouge. Louisiana is border to the west by Texas, to the North by Arkansas, to the east by Mississippi, and to the south by the Gulf of Mexico. The Mississippi flows between the border of Louisiana and Mississippi, and all the way south to the Gulf, where it empties its waters into. There are also two rivers which branch off of the Mississippi River at the south end. These small bodies of water are called the Red River and the Ouachita River. The climate of Louisiana State is primarily subtropical, especially along the coast, and in the vicinity of where New Orleans was struck by a hurricane. Cyclones are also very common in this area, and so are tornadoes. History Of Louisiana Several Louisiana (LA) tribes such as the Atakapa, Opelousa, Washa, Chawasha, and the Houma originally inhabited this area. Then, the Spanish came to explore the land. Later on it was the French who took over most of the land. The original territory of this state included the area on both sides of the Mississippi River. In all these were the states that were included in the original Louisiana Territory: Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. In 1803 the Louisiana Territory was divided up into two regions which were called the Orleans Territory (which was turned into the state of Louisiana in the year 1812) and the District of Louisiana (the rest of the territory). The Louisiana Purchase was made by the United States. State Parks In Louisiana Parks in this state include Bayou Segnette State Park, Lake Clairborne State Park, and North Toledo Bend State Park. Plenty of sight seeing, boating, hiking, biking, bird watching, and swimming is done here. Visitors of different state parks can also relive the days of the Civil War, enjoy a country music concert, or camp in a tent. Some tourists who visit this state will also find some of the country’s best fish in this area. The lodging in some of these state parks in feature air-conditioned cabins. Furthermore, each park area includes picnic areas and other amenities to help make travel as comfortable as possible for those who are not “tent campers.”
