Gatlinburg
Gatlinburg is located in Sevier County, Tennessee. This city is very small, but it is very popular because it is situated near the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. The Major highway that is used to take people to Gatlinburg is HWY 441.This particular road will take travelers through Cherokee, Colorado which runs through the national park. Gatlinburg was home to the Cherokee Indians and perhaps other tribes at one time. They often hunted in this area. Europeans and other white settlers entered into this area during the 19th century. One of the more recent events that brought attention to the Gatlinburg area was the fire that burned down the Ripley’s Believe it or Not building, gift shop, and surrounding areas. In fact, an entire block had caught on fire. This happened in the year 1992. Then, this little town had two subsequent “believe it or not” incidences of its own. Two more fires occurred on the premises of the rebuilt “Ripley’s Believe it or Not” building. They both were again because of faulty light fixtures. These fires occurred in 2000 and 2003. Apparently some thing or some one really does not like this particular Ripley’s location. However, at least the 2000 fire did not cause any damage, and the 2003 fire only caused minor damage. Some tourists may think twice about going near that attraction unless they know it is properly fixed. Other tourist attractions that occur within the town of Gatlinburg include the man-made attractions of Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, which also covers topics such as the Titanic, the Planet Mars, and pirates. Dollywood and Dollywood Splash Country amusement parks are also located nearby in Pigeon Forge. These parks are named after the famous country singer Dolly Parton. Gatlinburg has long been known for its musical shows, such as the ones that have occurred in the Sweet Fanny Adams Theatre. However, in later years these productions have moved to Pigeon Forge. The biggest attraction directly in Gatlinburg is probably Ober Gatlinburg. This is both a ski resort and an amusement park. People who come to tour the Great Smokey Mountains National Park also come to Gatlinburg simply for a place to stay. People looking for Gatlinburg cabin rentals can very easily find them when searching online. These listings are most likely in listings of Tennessee cabins that are for rent. These are usually found in classified ad sections and directories both online and offline.
